I.Dezign was appointed to create an interior that reflected the brand’s Finnish heritage while remaining warm, comfortable and suitable for its Singapore location.

The Project Challenge

The main challenge was to combine café and retail activities without making the space feel separated. The layout needed to support customer movement, dining comfort, product displays and daily café operations within one connected environment.

The interior also needed to express Marimekko’s bold personality without overwhelming visitors. Colours, patterns, furniture and materials had to work together in a clear and balanced way.

Our Design Approach

I.Dezign combined clean Nordic design with carefully selected local influences. White oak, smooth concrete finishes and linear timber details create a simple, modern base inspired by Finnish interiors.

Terracotta tiles around the reception counter add warmth and introduce a subtle connection to Singapore. Marimekko’s signature fabrics were used on the upholstered benches, bringing colour, pattern and strong brand character into the café area.

Furniture and lighting were selected to support a relaxed Nordic atmosphere. The layout creates clear movement between the retail and dining zones, allowing customers to explore products before or after their café visit.

Soft materials, comfortable seating and warm lighting help create a calm and welcoming environment within the busy ION Orchard setting.

The Project Outcome

The completed Marimekko Café creates a connected retail and dining experience where customers can engage with the brand through fashion, food, colour and interior design.

Nordic materials provide a clean and timeless foundation, while patterned fabrics, terracotta finishes and carefully selected furniture give the space warmth and personality. The result is a welcoming and visually memorable café that reflects Marimekko’s joyful identity while supporting its flagship retail experience.
