Lotus on Water is a three-storey retail and gallery space located inside a heritage shophouse at 69 Neil Road. The project brings together Fengshui, fine art, antiques and bold interior colours in one immersive environment.

I.Dezign was appointed to transform the historic property into a distinctive space for Fengshui clients, art collectors and invited guests. The design needed to support the client’s artistic vision while protecting the character of a building with more than 100 years of history.

The Project Challenge

One of the main challenges was the use of 22 different colours throughout the interior. Each colour needed to work naturally with the paintings, furniture, antiques, lighting and existing architectural details.

The project also involved careful installation across three floors. As the shophouse had no lift, furniture, chandeliers, artwork and decorative pieces had to be carried manually to the upper levels. Every item required careful handling and planning to protect both the objects and the completed interior.

Our Design Approach

I.Dezign created a balance between the building’s heritage features and its new retail and gallery purpose. The original character of the shophouse was kept visible, while new colours, lighting and display areas were introduced to create a fresh visitor experience.

A deep red stairwell became one of the main visual features. The colour creates a strong contrast with the gold-framed artwork of Master Yun Long Zi and turns the staircase into part of the gallery journey.

The paintings, antiques and furniture were arranged as part of the overall interior rather than displayed as separate objects. This creates a layered environment where visitors can move through the space, explore the collection and experience different colours and design details on each floor.

The Project Outcome

The completed Lotus on Water interior combines heritage architecture, art presentation and experiential retail design. The 22-colour palette gives the different spaces their own character while keeping the three floors visually connected. Carefully placed artwork, antiques, furniture and feature lighting create a memorable environment that reflects the client’s artistic identity.

This project shows how thoughtful retail interior design in Singapore can transform a heritage property into a functional, expressive and engaging customer destination.
